IT WAS OPENING DAY OF FISHING on the Yellowstone River, home of what are reputedly the world's most gullible cutthroat trout. Below the surface, gills flashed bright scarlet and eager jaws gaped open. Carnage beneath the surface calm, intimations of the lunging attacks of marauding sharks.
Except my fly was not among the victims.
