To what extent does a person's handedness influence cognitive processing? The general answer provided by experimental studies seems to be either not at all or, at most, very little. In a review of possible cognitive correlates of handedness, Bishop (1990, p. 87) concluded by quoting an earlier review by Marshall (1981): '"All in all, there seems to be little cause at the moment to give up the hypothesis that left-handers differ from right-handers solely by virtue of preferring their left hands" (p. 78). There is little in the more recent research literature to alter that conclusion'.
