Tod Smith, president and general manager of two Tucson, Ariz., TV stations, will take over those jobs at Channel 13 (WVEC-TV) on Aug. 10.
Smith, 47, will replace Jim Berman, who was fired last week after serving for nearly a year as president and general manager of the ABC affiliate.
"My immediate plan is to get in and understand first the community and then the station," Smith said Wednesday.
He has led KMSB-TV, a Fox station, and KTTU-TV (MyNetworkTV) in Tucson since June 2006, according to a news release from Belo Corp. of Dallas, which owns WVEC and the Tucson stations.
