- Taiwan's jobless rate surged to a new high of 5.94 per cent in June from 5.82 per cent in May, as companies held off on hiring because of the island's recession, shutting graduates out of jobs, according to statistics released yesterday by the Cabinet-level Directorate General of Budget, Accounting and Statistics (DGBAS).
