While the heft of this latest edition of the annual Pushcart Prize winners is imposing, the table of contents is even more impressive. Among the sixty-nine selections are stories from such well-known writers as Bobbie Ann Mason, Andre Dubus, and James Alan McPherson, poems by Thom Gunn, W. S. Merwin, and Seamus Heaney, as well as reminiscences and appreciations, among these a thoughtful tribute to Wallace Stegner by Barry Lopez.
It is as impossible to review all that is contained in volume 21 in this brief space as it would be to read it in a single sitting. This is a book that begs to be browsed at leisure, sampled, returned to, and enjoyed. And its rewards are ...
