One may have mixed feelings about the ascendancy of the curator, yet one does feel curious to know what the curator has devised. Earlier this year, we had 'The Generational', the first in a triennial series projected by the New Museum, subtitled 'Younger Than Jesus'. Curated by Lauren Cornell, Massimiliano Gioni and Laura Hoptman, this was an underwhelming experience that came with a source-book that included all the artists researched for the exhibition. That ecumenical gesture arose from a desire to sweep a wide net over the generation of artists born after 1975, known variously as Generation Y, the Millenial Generation, or iGeneration.
