The Community Fisheries Control Agency, which has been up and running for two years and was installed definitively in Vigo (Spain) a year ago, has drawn up an initial assessment of its action and of cooperation between member states. It notes that operational coordination between member states is inadequate on its own and that the sector is still not doing enough to ensure compliance with rules. The agency presents a number of recommendations and stresses the need to develop a culture of compliance. It also expresses its willingness to help member states and the European Commission draw up a compliance strategy.
