Nigeria has a substantial flexible foam sector, but its foamers are a diverse and fragmented group. They range from major operations with continuous foaming plants to small 'bucket' foaming set-ups, according to Nnamdi Iroegbu, technical support manager for chemicals distributor Chellarams plc, based in Lagos.
At the moment, Iroegbu said, the foam sector is challenged by high prices for raw materials, all of which have to be imported. The falling value of the local currency, the Naira, has contributed to this, making costs for imported materials prohibitive for smaller operations, he pointed out.
