The Electricity Generating Authority of Thailand has revised up its 15-year renewable energy investment programme ending in 2023 by 36% to 30 billion baht from 22 billion earlier, according to deputy governor Somboon Arayaskul.
The government has set a target for renewable energy to account for 20% of the country's power capacity or 5,600 megawatts in 2023, from 1,750 MW or 5.83% now.
To encourage investment in renewable energy, the government offers a so-called "adder tariff" or special purchasing rate that is higher than the price of power generated from mainstream fuels. The adder has been well received by private power ...
