William Duckworth's collection of interviews with sixteen American composers is the latest addition to an already impressive list of such books to appear in the last fifteen years, among them: Cole Gagne and Tracy Caras, Soundpieces: Interviews with American Composers (Metuchen, N.J.: Scarecrow Press, 1982), Edward Strickland, American Composers: Dialogues on Contemporary Music (Bloomington: Indiana University Press, 1991), Gagne's second volume, Soundpieces 2: Interviews with American Composers (Metuchen, N.J.: Scarecrow Press, 1993), and Geoff Smith and Nicola Walker Smith, American Originals: Interviews with 25 Contemporary Composers (London: Faber and Faber, 1994). ...
