The Islamic Republic Tuesday hanged 13 members of a Baluchi rebel group that has been disrupting Sistan va Baluchestan province for years.
The province announced Monday that it would hang 14 members of Jundollah (Soldiers of God) Tuesday in a public park in Zahedan, the provincial capital.
But Tuesday morning, provincial Judiciary chief Ebrahim Hamidi announced 13 men had been hanged inside the city prison.
He did not say why the executions were switched from public to private, but there was speculation more senior officials expressed fears that a public execution would help Jundollah recruit more supporters.
