Article: Amtech Corp. Losses Rise in 1997.

Apr. 1--When financially troubled Amtech Corp. released its year-end earnings report, the Dallas-based company didn't try to sugarcoat it.

"1997 was awful," David P. Cook, interim chairman, president and chief executive, said in a news release issued Monday night. "Our financial performance last year plainly stunk."

Mr. Cook, formerly an outside member of the board of directors, was named to his posts March 1. In the earnings report, Mr. Cook said he now intends to make the changes necessary to return the company to profitability by the third quarter.
