India may introduce bivalent or polyvalent polio vaccines

New Delhi, Jun 28 (PTI) In an effort to reduce the pressure on state medical facilities, the Indian Government is contemplating introduction of bivalent or polyvalent polio vaccines to immunise children at one go.
A pilot study to test the efficacy of polyvalent and bivalent polio vaccines would be undertaken in certain districts of Uttar Pradesh soon, senior health ministry officials said.
India is currently using the monovalent vaccine which is administered to children in three separate rounds to combat the three known polio strains in the country.
