These two books are fictions that reflect the times in which they were written.
John Paul II's "letter" in Letter to a Jewish Friend purports to be his invitation to a pre-war high school friend to attend a memorial service in their native Wadowice -- forty miles from Cracow -- and to read this letter. However, the Jewish friend, Jerzy Kluger, had first informed the pope of the event.
