The working class had a friend and advocate in Neil Sherburne, who dedicated his entire life to public service. His honesty, integrity and ability to win over those with opposing views made him an effective and well-liked union leader and longtime secretary-treasurer of the Minnesota AFL-CIO.
Sherburne died of leukemia July 15 at his home in Woodbury. He was 90.
Using his deft negotiation skills and affable personality, Sherburne was instrumental in getting bills passed by the Legislature that in the early 1970s established a minimum wage in Minnesota and included cost-of-living adjustments for those receiving ...
