IT is a Scottish institution that has proudly held its own throughout the centuries, despite hordes of foreign invaders trying to usurp its throne.
But now haggis, our national dish, has staged a coup down south, with sales of the dish in England outstripping those north of the Border.
And the 'great chieftain of the puddin' race' is lording it over cucumber sandwiches and dainty finger foods after becoming a surprise hit with the hors d'oeuvre and canape set.
Haggis bon-bons, haggis-stuffed mushrooms, haggis tarts and even haggis ravioli with asparagus have all helped create a new life for the old favourite.
