The heads of governments of Bangladesh, india and Pakistan, attending the business summit on January 15, 1998 at Dhaka reiterated their commitment to liberalization of trade in the region, reaffirming the goal of achievement of a Free Trade Area in South Asia by 2001. They agreed to reduce tariffs and remove quantitative restrictions, non-tariff and para-tariff barriers and other structural impediments to trade to achieve this goal.
