A LEGAL challenge to the long-running ban on direct flights between UK airports and Northern Cyprus was defeated in the UK court yesterday.
Cyprus Turkish Airlines (CTA) and its UK tour operator, CTA Holidays Limited, had sought a judicial review against the UK Government's 35-year ban.
But Justice Wyn Williams, handing down his ruling at Birmingham Civil Justice Centre, dismissed the call for a review.
CTA flies about 100,000 visitors from the UK to Northern Cyprus each year, but, like all other airlines, its planes must land in Turkey en route both to and from the island, increasing flight times, airfares and fuel emissions.
