- The Ministry of Finance on Wednesday raised its economic assessments, for the April-June quarter, of 10 of the country's 11 regions, except Okinawa, from the previous quarter.

- Domestic retail sales fell 3.0 per cent year on year to 10.65 trillion yen (US$112.655 billion) in June, the 10th straight month of decline, according to preliminary data released Wednesday by the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry.
