BOSTON - Republican Charles D. Baker launched a campaign for governor yesterday, taking potshots at the Patrick administration and promising to rein in state spending and pensions, while creating a better business environment.
Mr. Baker began what could be a 15-month march to next year's gubernatorial election, saying he would not link himself to national Republican politics. During a jammed scrum with reporters quizzing him on his views, Mr. Baker outlined positions on key social issues, stating that he supports gay marriage, legalized abortion and the death penalty.
