The US and China formally agreed to cooperate on strategies for tackling greenhouse gas emissions and on research into alternative forms of energy during talks in Washington this week.

A memorandum of understanding signed at the State Department Tuesday provides for the transfer and sharing of emerging low-carbon technologies between the two countries.

The agreement also covers joint research and demonstration efforts in the areas of alternative vehicles, energy efficiency, and modernization of the electrical grid.
