Although you can buy ice-cream in hundreds of weird and wonderful flavours these days, sometimes the simplest are the tastiest, and nothing is quite as delicious as homemade vanilla ice-cream.

Making your own is easy - even if you don't have an ice-cream machine - and once you have mastered the basic vanilla recipe, you can enjoy it as it is, or add your favourite flavours, as I have done here with my summerberry and rich chocolate ice-creams.
