In an effort to reduce the cost and improve and effectiveness of natural gas leak surveys, Gas Research Institute is investigating the use of remote-sensing, laser-based techniques that take advantage of the infrared (IR) spectral absorption properties of natural gas. GRI believes the result could be the development of a device to detect gas leaks at considerable distances and provide images.
