How many giant bearings must Timken Co. sell before it has established itself as a major supplier to one of the world's fastest-growing industries and has validated $200 million of recent investments?
The answer, my friend, is blowin' in the wind.
But, considering that the bearings Timken is selling to wind turbine manufacturers go for $200,000 (or more) apiece, it might not be as high a number as one might think. It's certainly not as many as the millions of small bearings the company sold to a burgeoning U.S. auto industry in the first half of the last century.
