Valassis wins $300M award in lawsuit
Livonia-based direct-mail and newspaper coupon giant Valassis Communications Inc. won a $300 million verdict in Wayne County Circuit Court against New York-based competitor News America Inc.
Jurors found News America subsidiary News America Marketing liable for unfair competition and tortious interference with business practices.
Valassis had sought $915 million, but Greg Curtner of Detroit-based Miller, Canfield, Paddock & Stone P.L.C., lead counsel for Valassis, hailed the verdict as a good compromise. Curtner was named Litigator of the Week by The AM Law Litigation Daily for his work.
