This survey was the first solo show of the work of Nicolas de Stael (1914-1955) to be seen in New York in over 30 years. Filling two floors of the gallery, the generous selection of paintings, drawings and collages presented a considered overview of his contribution to postwar art. All the works exhibited date from 1950-55, when the Russian-born artist was a leading light of the School of Paris and at the height of his fame.
