The Great Proletarian Cultural Revolution evokes images of the Red Guard, social upheaval, and political turmoil that lasted from 1966 until 1976. Seemingly, the vast majority of research has focused on the political and social dimensions of this era with only passing reference to the impact on the cultural venues.
