The South Rub al-Khali (Srak) consortium will spud its fifth and sixth wells in Saudi Arabia in the coming two months, as it accelerates drilling activity to meet a seven-well exploration commitment that must be completed in less than a year, Srak's top executive told Oil Daily Monday.
Srak, owned 50-50 by Royal Dutch Shell and Saudi Aramco, will spud the Zaynan-2 well in the northeastern corner of contract Area 2 in the vast Rub al-Khali desert in 6-8 weeks, said Srak Chief Executive Kamal al-Yahya.
The rig, which was just completed drilling the Kidan-6 well in contract Area 1, will be taken down and moved about 620 miles to the new drilling location.
