Manners maketh man's best friend, but you can't expect to have the perfect puppy unless you are the perfect owner. Catch your charges young, say the experts, and all it will take to quiet them is a clearly spoken "come" followed by a brisk but nonaggressive "sit" - and a little bit of praise. Follow the rules explained here by Colette Kase, puppy trainer and behavior adviser to Great Britain's National Canine Defence League, an advocacy group devoted to dog welfare, spaying and neutering, and finding new homes for strays and abandoned dogs.
