In his workshop along East Genesee Street in the town of Manlius, Tom Hosmer bends over the viola he's repairing after its owner dropped it, cracking the top.
Hosmer carefully scrapes off the excess varnish after repairing the crack on the instrument, which is worth more than $7,000.
"I had to let the instrument dry out for a couple of days because it was so humid out," he said. "Then I was able to repair it. When it's cracked, it ruins the alignment."
