Remarkable reduction of operating rate in 2008
China's capacity to produce PVC paste resin has reached 592 000 t/a. With impacts from the global financial crisis, the output of PVC paste resin in China dropped to 360 000 tons in 2008, 5.3% below 2007. The import volume was 63 000 tons, a drop of 10.1%. The export volume was 7 600 tons, a drop of 68.2%. Apparent consumption was 406 000 tons, a drop of 4.7%. The average operating rate of domestic producers was around 64.2% in 2008, nearly 12.6% lower than the previous year. Product inventories became much larger, prices fell drastically and producers had a hard time in operations.
