SOUTH ORANGE, N.J. -- Could Pope Pius XII have stopped the Holocaust by vigorously condemning the Nazis' killing of Jews?
That is a question that Jews asked Catholics face to face March 23 under the lighted crucifix that forms the centerpiece of the altar of Our Lady of Sorrows Church here -- a week after the Vatican released its document "We Remember: A Reflection on the Shoah."
Shoah, the Hebrew word for horror, is used by Jews to describe the Holocaust, the persecution and extermination of 6 million Jews during World War II.
