I never felt very wanted as a child because my parents sent me to boarding school at the age of eight. I used to scream and cry every time I had to go back, but they sent me nonetheless and, to this day, I don't know why they put me through it.
Orley Farm School in Harrow was a hellhole of the very first order. Preparatory schools in 1963 were filled with teachers who were either fearsome, drunk, sadists or paedophiles. There were some good teachers there, but many more monsters.
