Article: Rates for Asia-Europe container shipping to rise 30% from August.(Brief article)

Taipei, July 27, 2009 (CENS)--From the beginning of August, Taiwan-based container freighters, including Evergreen Marine Corp., Yang Ming Marine Transport Corp. and Wan Hai Lines Ltd., will raise container shipping rates for the Asia-to-Europe routes by 30%, or US$300 per twenty-foot equivalent unit (TEU).

The hike in freight rate includes peak-season services and emergency fuel surcharges. At present, the freight rate for the Asia-to-Europe routes is between US$750 and US$850 per TEU. With the addition of the surcharges, the freight rate will jump to over US$1,000 per TEU, close to the costs of between US$1,200 and US$1,300 per TEU. Raising rates is expected to ...
