BACK in the 90s when the sunny, laid-back strains of Sunday Shining filled the airwaves, the hugely talented Finley Quaye seemed destined to occupy a permanent position as the king of dance pop in the UK charts.

Edinburgh-born Quaye shot to stardom with debut album Maverick A Strike and scooped the 1998 Brit Award for Best British Male Solo Artist, with his mellow blend of Marleyesque reggae and Brit-poppy funk.

But, by the time critically acclaimed Vanguard came out in 2000, his talent seemed overshadowed by his tangled personal life - a stay at the Priory and an affair with Paula Yates were two of a brace of headlinegrabbing incidents.
