Overexposure to the sun and its ultraviolet (UV) light changes the texture and weakens the elastic properties of the skin, causing wrinkles, leathering, brown or "age spots," actinic keratoses, and potentially skin cancer. Because this photodamage is cumulative, it is never too late for your patients to start a sun-protection regimen. According to The Skin Cancer Foundation, up to 90% of the visible changes commonly attributed to aging are caused by the sun.
