Chimerix Inc., a specialist in developing oral antiviral drugs, has raised $16.1 million in a Series E financing to help fund a pair of Phase II studies of lead product CMX001.
Both studies are still in the early stages of enrollment and involve patients with suppressed immune systems.
One of the studies will evaluate CMX001 in bone marrow transplant patients who have cytomegalovirus, a group of herpes viruses. The other study involves patients with the BK virus, named after the patient in whom the virus was first documented.
