The ASEM: managing the new framework of the EU's economic relations with East Asia. (Asia-Europe Meetings)

A study suggests that Asia-Europe Meetings (ASEM) will be significantly and more beneficial to the EU. However, the ASEM's framework for managing both bilateral and EU's economic relations with East Asia simultaneously may be problematical. Factors affecting ASEM's efforts to implement a common interregional agenda include policy objectives of Japan and China, lack of technocratic capability by lesser developed East Asian countries and the US' economic interests in the region.
