ARCADIA, Calif. -- Antonio Sabato Jr. in briefs is tough competition.
But retailers ready to take on Calvin by rolling out their own private-label underwear often find themselves in this city about an hour outside Los Angeles.
Esportia International Inc. was launched about 15 years ago, when David Ouyang began manufacturing his own brand of underwear. Some of his ideas didn't work -- like packaging briefs in little tennis ball-shaped containers and calling the line "Balls." But he did have success with a line called Premio. The label offered briefs in different colors and fabrications -- a world away from the plain white briefs from Calvin Klein and Jockey ...
