Of every seven people in the United States, one has disabling conditions that interfere with life activities (Pope & Tarlov, 1991). Like other minorities, most people with disabilities desire to achieve acceptance and integration in society. The Americans with Disabilities Act (1990) mandated an environment essential to acceptance and integration (Nagler, 1993). In the process of adjusting to societal life, however, people with disabilities continue to be affected by stigma and prejudice.
