The weight and span of certain artists influence on our collective consciousness asserts itself gradually; these individuals are discreetly among us, producing prodigiously and ushering in new paradigms while avoiding the limelight. But looking back on an elapsed decade, we see these artists' handprints all over the crowded culture map. Their influence, though massive, never really clamors for attention.
