The local Emirates Belbadi Contracting Company has started construction work on the estimated AED1.6bn ($435m) Al-Bateen Wharf project in Abu Dhabi. The waterfront development covers an area of 54,000 square metres and includes a 400-room, 15-storey hotel tower and a smaller 14-storey tower with 200 serviced apartments.

The marina will include berths for 285 fishing boats and 38 racing dhows. It will also retain the Al-Bateen shipyard, which will showcase traditional dhow building. Singapore's Surbana is the masterplan consultant.
