While liberal and conservative Democrats battle over health care reform, three Chicago-area Democrats in historically GOP districts are stuck in the middle, still uncommitted and coming under pressure from both ends of the political spectrum.
The difficulty for swing-district Reps. Melissa Bean, Debbie Halvorson and Bill Foster: No matter how they vote on the high-profile issue, roughly half of their constituents are likely to be unhappy. Republican leaders are targeting Ms. Halvorson and Mr. Foster for defeat if they vote for health reform, and pro-reform groups are pressuring Ms. Bean to support a government-run insurance plan.
