SHREWSBURY - The six Apollo missions to the moon from 1969 to 1972 brought back 842 pounds of lunar rocks and lunar soil samples. A few grams of the foreign matter are landing in area libraries.
Tuesday, samples on loan from NASA's collection of lunar material were on display at the Shrewsbury Public Library.
"Wow, that's cool," said 4-year-old Avery Kurzontkowski of Shrewsbury, as she accepted an "I touched a moon rock" pin.
The rocks are displayed inside a 6-inch-diameter clear Lucite disk. In addition, a second disk contained samples from meteorites that have struck the Earth.
