Fat transplants have been used in reconstructive and cosmetic surgery for more than a century (Bircoll, 1992; Hernandez-Perez, 1995 & 1992). For many years, however, this procedure was practically forgotten. With the advent of liposuction and the availability of larger amounts of fat, the procedure began receiving renewed interest 15 years ago (Bircoll, 1992). Since that time, there has been important progress in this technique.
Today fat transfer is used as a part of a program of facial rejuvenation, along with chemical peels, blepharoplasty, rhitydectomy, and oral isotretinoin (Hernandez-Perez, 1997).
