AUGUST 1949
* Higgins Inc., New Orleans, is building six 200-hp, 36'x l0' boats for the U.S. Coast Guard St. Louis District. The first steel boat recently underwent sea trials on Lake Pontchartrain.

* The new 45' all-steel towboat Alton was delivered recently to Norman Brothers Inc. in Alton, 111. The tug, which replaced the wooden tug Normania, was built by Missouri Valley Steel Inc., Leavenworth, Kan. The pushboat is powered by two Cummins HM-600 engines connected to Twin Disc reduction gears with 3:1 ratios. The Alton is being used to make up tows of coal barges on the Mississippi River near Alton.
