The Navy has awarded a $28 million contract modification to Northrop Grumman Shipbuilding, Newport News, for extended drydock work on the carrier Enterprise, part of a roughly 16-month repair and maintenance process similar to an overhaul.
It follows the award of a $7 million contract modification by the Navy for the same project, announced Aug. 3. The drydock work will bring all subsystems that affect combat capability and safety to established performance standards. It also will offer an opportunity to perform hull inspections and recoating and other maintenance that can't be done when the ship is afloat.
