Aside from refrigerants, not many things in the hvac industry have changed as markedly in recent years as the reciprocating air conditioning compressor remanufacturing and rebuilding business.

The compressor remanufacturing industry has surely come a long way.

In the 1970s, "rebuilders" were concentrating on big compressors, many of them open types.

Then the market for those machines dried up and the market for smaller, semi-hermetic compressors (7.5 to 40 hp) dramatically increased, with the steady inroads of the rooftop hvac unit.

But within the last five years, there have been even more dramatic changes.
