SUNRISE, Fla. -- Florida-based xG Technology[R] has developed a mobile phone service that uses unlicensed radio spectrum to drastically reduce the cost of both wireless voice and data.
One of the reasons that current mobile phone services are so expensive is that the major wireless carriers in the US and Europe paid billions of dollars for the right to use licensed spectrum and are now trying to recoup those billions from their customers. Moreover, the prohibitively high cost of licensed spectrum has precluded all but a handful of entrenched players from offering high value mobile services.
