A state agency has approved a tentative deal to send sewage from Hopkinton to Milford, paving the way for the two towns to work out financial details and finish a pipeline connection.
"It's just nice to get some additional capacity so we can improve the commercial tax base," selectmen Chairman Brian Herr said.
In giving its blessing, the Water Resources Commission agreed that the proposed transfer of 200,000 gallons a day represents an insignificant amount to move between drainage basins. Milford sits in the Charles River basin, and Hopkinton in the basin holding the Assabet, Sudbury and Concord rivers.
